A LOOK AT SOME INTERESTING EVENTS DUE TO TAKE PLACE IN THE COMING WEEKS - NATIONWIDE

We begin in the North West of the country where the following festivals are scheduled to take place:
Oct 5-7 Ballyshannon Street Arts Festival - a celebration of the arts and culture
Oct 26-29 Sligo Festival of Baroque Music - musicians appearing from Ireland and overseas
Nov 1-4 International choral festival featuring a range of choirs and music.

Staying in the West a workshop in traditional basket making continues on Inis Mor, Aran Islands until 7th October. The Ballinasloe Horse Fair also continues to the same date.

The 11th Cuisle Poetry Festival is at the city's Bell table Arts Centre - Oct17-21
At Bunratty Castle and Folk park Halloween fun and games - Oct 30

In the Cork area:
Oct 14-21 52nd Cork International Film Festival will be held - a feast of short and feature length films, documentaries, and animations. Also drive-in movies around the city. Later in the month 26-29 the Jazz festival weekend takes place.
Oct 27-28 Ballydehob Old Time Threshing and Vintage Weekend - a great day out for all the family.

DUBLIN LISTINGS

Costume Exhibition
A new exhibition featuring clothes from the 1950's by top Irish designer Nelli Mulcahy is scheduled to open at the National Museum of Ireland ,Collins Barracks, in mid October. The exhibition will also feature hats by Elizabeth Fanagan who now resides in the West of Ireland. A full report will appear in the next edition of ADMAG.

Not To Be Missed
A reminder of two exhibitions featured in our last edition:
The 'Sea Stallion' the world's largest replica of a Viking warship is on view at the National Museum of Ireland , Collins Barracks, and over at the National Library, Kildare Street, Yeats: the Life and Works of William Butler Yeats continues to draw the crowds.
GAA Museum
Tours of Croke Park Stadium and visits to the Museum continue daily during October (except on match days). There are also special 'All Star Children's Tours' from Oct 29th-Nov 2nd for mid term break. Art Exhibitions
At the National Gallery of Ireland, Print Gallery - 'Catching a Likeness: Portraits on Paper' charting portraits on paper from 15th-20th century. Until December 9th.
Paintings From Poland - Polish art spanning the period 1880-1939, with over 70 paintings on view. October 17th - 27th January 2008, and Masquerade And Spectacle -the circus and the travelling fair in the work of Jack B Yeats . Until 11th November.
Theatre
The Dublin Theatre Festival continues until October 13th at various venues.
The Druid Companies production of Long Day's Journey Into Night by Eugene O'Neill and directed by Garry Hynes moves to Dublin following its successful run in Galway. See it at the Gaiety Theatre from October 3rd-13th.
Then from Oct 15th at the same venue the popular 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' returns for five nights, to be followed by another musical '42nd Street' Oct24th-Nov 3rd.
National Concert Hall
An evening with Richard Clayderman takes place on Wed 10th October at 8pm
A celebration of the great clarinet player Artie Shaw featuring the James Langton Big Band is on Friday 26th October at 8pm
One of Greece's best loved singers Nana Mouskouri will be in concert for one night only on Mon 22nd Oct -part of her farewell world tour.
At the Shelbourne Hotel , Stephen's Green, on Wednesday 31st October an evening with leading Irish soprano Virginia Kerr, accompanied by the RTE Concert Orchestra, will take place in the Great Room ballroom. Tickets E35 include a wine and canapé reception. Details tel 01 6634500.

Long Day's Journey Into Night
